iKLR
was launched in 2007 during the 2nd International Congress on Education
in Love, Sex, and Life. Themed, Love, Laughter, & Live Ever After,
it was packed with a variety of activities from research to a concert.
International Congress
In 2006, the first international congress, Primer Encuentro Internacional Sobre la Educacion de la Afectividad y la Sexualidad, was organized in Mexico by Intermedia Consulting,
an international not-for-profit organization aimed at providing support
to NGOs and social entrepreneurs that promote values. The Mexico
congress yielded 750 delegates mainly from Latin America. Speakers from
Europe, the United States, Latin America, and Asia.
In 2007, the congress was brought to Manila, Philippines. Love, Laughter and Life Ever
After: The 2nd International Congress on Education in Love, Sex, and
Life yielded 800 local and foreign delegates represented different sectors: parents,
teachers, government, church, media, socio-civic groups, social enterprises,
and youth leaders. Speakers were invited from the Philippines, United
States, Australia, and Singapore among others.
In
2008, Intermedia Consulting and Family Enrichment Society organized a
parents and youth seminars in Singapore, with the theme, "Celebrate
Real Love."
National
Research
In
partnership with the University of Navarre (Spain), a nation-wide
research was conducted to study what the youth think, feel, and say
about love, relationships, and sexuality.
The quantitative survey had respondents totaling 4,000 high school and university
students, from 7
regional concentrations of youth population across the nation: NCR, Central
Luzon, Southern Tagalog, Western and Central Visayas, and Northern and Southern
Mindanao. The focused group discussions with parents of teenagers were arranged in 4 Philippine regions.
In
2009, the abstract of the article, "Relationships, love and sexuality:
What the Filipino youth think and feel," was sent to the United States
National Library of Medicine for inclusion in PubMed. The manuscript
may be seen in the website of BioMed Central Public Health.
Youth Concert

To cap off the congress,
Real Love Revolution The Youth Event Celebrating Real Love,
was held at the Le Pavillon, Roxas Boulevard with 1,500 high school and college
students, from public and private schools. The event was well attended by
celebrities like Christian Bautista, Barbie, Miguel Escueta, and Audrey Zubiri.
The winners of the iKLR
Song-Writing and Documentary Film-Making Competitions were also announced in the concert.
